Organization and Management Assessment

Organization and Management Assessment

Successful organizations recognize the need for continuous improvement.

Organizational Assessments focus on helping a team, department, or organization better understand those issues that are supporting good performance or hindering good performance.

However, managers are responsible for making sure that things are done properly. And while leaders may bring us vision, inspiration and challenge, these things count for nothing without the efficient implementation brought about by good management.

To be a great manager, one must have an extensive set of skills – from planning and delegation to communication and motivation. Because the skill set is so wide, it's tempting to build skills in the areas of management that you're already comfortable with. But, for long-term success, it's wise to analyze skills in all areas of management – and then to challenge yourself to improve in all of these areas.

I believe that it wise to identify the company’s strengths and weaknesses and evaluate for possible improvement through opportunities and threats.

Wealth of Organization

Wealth of Organization

The most important asset of an organization is manpower. Intellectul capital has been the new  definition of an organization’s wealth. Without it, an organization won’t survive. Intellectual capital is knowledge, intangible assets provided to an entity by its employees' efforts and also knowledge assets such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, and other results of human innovation and thought.

Intellectual capital can include the skills and knowledge that a company has developed about how to make its goods and services.  It also includes insight about information pertaining to the company’s history; customers; vendors; processes; stakeholders; and all other information that might have value for a competitor that, perhaps, is not common knowledge.  Intellectual capital is therefore, not only organizational knowledge, it is also industry knowledge.  It is the combination of cognitive knowledge and intuitive/experience-related knowledge.

The problem today in many organizations is employee attrition through layoffs, resignations, retirements, and other forms of employee separation from the company. Employees have extensive knowledge about their job, the business processes, the data that supports their jobs including how to make things happen, and what works best.  Unfortunately, in most instances today their knowledge has not been captured, transferred, or made available to others.

People in New Organization

People in New Organization

Many companies today are under intense economic pressure. Reorganizations, takeovers, mergers, downsizings, joint ventures, and other major changes are extremely common, as companies try to grow and survive.

Since most people normally hate to go through change, one can easily understand how today's pace of change can be stressful for many employees.

Culture defines how people behave both around others and when they are alone. Organizational culture is represented by a characteristic set of behaviors, revealed in what people do and say. Developing the right culture for a company's individual strategy is crucial to achieving sustainable competitive advantage.

The culture is aligned with strategy. This is vital to building capabilities and attaining goals. An aligned culture will support and facilitate the capabilities needed to achieve strategic goals, whereas a divergent culture will undermine them.

Most leaders recognize how critical a high-performance culture is to their organization’s success. But many are discouraged by the gap between their current and target culture. Others are frustrated because they don’t know why their culture is broken—or what steps they might take to get and keep a high-performance culture.

The Value of Enterprise Resource Planning

The Value of Enterprise Resource Planning

Enterprise Resource Planning systems can add tremendous value to a company’s core business functionality. It is a collection business application that coordinates the resources, information, and activities required for core business processes. Also they are strategic tools used to reduce costs, improve business processes, and healthier risk management.

ERP systems shares database that supports multiple functions used by different business units. Example is employees in different division can rely on the same information for their specific needs.

ERP software also offers synchronized reporting and automation. Instead of forcing employees to maintain separate databases and spreadsheets that have to be manually merged to generate reports, some ERP solutions allow staff to pull reports from one system. Example with sales orders automatically into the financial system without any manual input, the order management department can process orders more quickly and accurately, and the finance department can close the books faster. Other common ERP features include a portal to enable employees to quickly understand the business' performance.

Master Data Management

Master Data Management

As defined, Master data is critical business data shared among multiple systems. MDM comprises the processes, governance, policies, standards, and tools that consistently define and manage the critical data of an organization to provide a single point of reference.

As I understand with the topic, we should always understand the quality of data we handle.  These data must be handled with security and efficiency.

There should be an organizational approach to data management that supports business strategy and fits the company’s culture.

When properly done, MDM streamlines data sharing among personnel and departments. Data it handles is very critical to the a company’s operation. That’s why it should be reliable, secured, simple an accurate.

For MDM to function at its best, all personnel and departments must be taught how data is to be formatted, stored and accessed. Frequent, coordinated updates to the master data file are also essential.

Disruptive Innovation

Disruptive Innovation

Knowing Disruptive Innovation to be a powerful way of thinking about innovation-driven growth, I noticed some benefits we are to gain with it.

It can help the organization/company expand its market through innovation with new and existing products or services. Like educational tools and ICT tools.

Opportunities for the future will be present since because there is a way for the possibility of something new, while creating a platform for growth.

Company culture can also evolve as a learning community that welcomes change rather than fearing it. As we know it, man is resistant to change.

However, if misapplied, disruptive innovation can be a threat to the existing one.

IT Service Management

IT Service Management

For me, venturing in IT service Management can have benefits to both IT and Business. Providing ITSM benefits IT because it Increase IT efficiency and productivity through defined roles and responsibilities. It also provides better support for regulatory and compliance challenges and increase control. It also Increase customer perception of IT and its services and the business value they deliver and it Increase visibility and understanding of IT services

It also provides better IT service suitability and availability by reducing the “incident lifecycle,” with the ability to prevent issues before the occur. The proactive identification of problems and reducing their adverse impact on business operations, thus there will be a better ability to react to the business’s need for rapid change

As I understand it further, Business-level benefits includes Increased IT efficiency and productivity through  better understanding of business requirements, resulting in better-fitting IT services. It also provides better expectations management and reducing the business impact of incidents.

Commercial off the Shelf Software

Commercial off the Shelf Software

Before turning to Commercial off the Shelf Software, I believe that it is important to understand to what extent the COTS package needs to be revised to provide the functionality that is actually needed by the business/agencies. Government agencies and many businesses order the use of COTS because it may cost less in the short term with respect to maintenance, development, and purchase. Knowing the government, it would be very convenient to them specially in the procurement.

There are several reasons companies and agencies consider using off the shelf or packaged software. Mostly, companies and other organizations acquire COTS to meet IT requirements while avoiding costs. Through COTS, maintenance expensesmay be reduced without cutting back on necessary features. Investing in COTS may benefit with lower initial cost and cost-effective new upgrades with new features.

However, before investing in a COTS solution, project teams must analyze anticipated growth and manage expectations to prevent disappointment.

Mobile Computing

Mobile Computing

In this topic, it was noted that mobile computing technology offers a quick and easy way to increase efficiency, productivity and profitability.

For me, using mobile computing has multifarious positive and negative effects.
Among the Advantages includes:

The power and data storage capacity of today’s handheld PCs and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) has made low-cost mobile computing a practical reality.

Efficiency improvement from the elimination of paper forms is not the only benefit that can be immediately realised. Electronic transfer of data is fast and accurate.

It is also beneficial in stores. Using a handheld computer with a built-in barcode scanner, one can automatically capture the ID of a person, location, asset or any marked item, like a special tool issued from store.

Mobile is the only technology which is now become necessary for any person in social and business life than computers.

As more users use M-Commerce, there are lots of companies use M-Commerce site to reach them by giving different and better deals in comparison of their competitor.

Companies try t reach to the consumer directly through M-Commerce,so users have no need to go far to the store physically and at the end it saves user's time and money.

It is Easy to use. There is no need of skilled consumer. Buyers can have look thousands of items on their cell phones and there is no need of online checkout process.
However, I have noticed some Disadvantages:

Mobile has no big screen like desktop or laptops, so sometimes users tired to nabigate more and more to choose just one item from thousands. It affects shopping rates.

Every new technology has some problem at the starting phase. Here M-Commerce is new application, so sometimes people avoid to change which are rapidly change.

Each business has its own risk. Same M-Commerce is the growing field and a lot of investment in this field is become risky.

M-Commerce needs high speed connectivity of 3G.

Customer Satisfaction

Customer Satisfaction

In our topic, Customer satisfaction, it is made clear that it is measures how products or services supplied by a company meet or surpass a customer’s expectation.

During the discussion, I realized that customer satisfaction is important because it provides business owners with a metric that they can use to manage and improve their businesses.

It is also an indicator of what consumer will repurchase with intentions. Since they were satisfied with the products and services, they will pledge loyalty to it.

I came across an articles stating that an Accenture global customer satisfaction report (2008) found that price is not the main reason for customer churn; it is actually due to the overall poor quality of customer service. By measuring and tracking customer satisfaction business owners can put new processes in place to increase the overall quality of customer service.

Satisfaction plays a significant role in how much revenue a customer generates for your business

Social Media

Social Media

People nowadays were engrossed in using the social media. Social media has changed the way people communicate, share information, and play games. Social media has also helped businesses connect with existing customers while introducing new consumers to their products and services.

Social media flatforms offers different avenues to businesses as well as educational institutions. Most of them go into social media expecting to see a big return on investment.

Social media is as a brand-building tool. It gets to introduce products and services spread through a large amount of audiences. There is an opportunity to prompt them over and over again about what is being offered.

Social media can greatly influence customers. Through comments and shares, it is possible to attract new customers. Social media can give the opportunity to improve business identity, reach new customers, and communicate with potential customers.

It is important to analyze online behavior and use that information to for decision making. Social media analytics analyze the behaviors of customers.

However, while many social network sites apply security measures to minimize cases of cyber-stalking, harassment, identity theft, and online scams, information infringement is still common due to advancement in technology.

Analytics

Analytics

Data Analytics can be very helpful to any organization, be it a large corporation or a small family business. Using predictive analytics can help an industry, moreso, to prevent any loss, therefore gain profit. Further, data analytics  can be very useful even on the academe for education and research purposes.

Analytics in the field of education can be beneficial. Most of the educational institutions today were using the online learning management tools. For example, a learning management system can capture data, like the time spent on a resource, frequency of posting and number of logins. These data can be used to improve learning strategies to deliver quality education.

I personally believe that analytics can be a powerful tool in motivating a learner. Each learner has differing levels of knowledge. If data and analytics were to be employed in decision making for instruction, therefore academic heads should be more focused on better ways to implement them. Teachers should be experts in data analytics. It helps to improve educational system, also could a way to educational reform.

Data analytics also play an important role in research. Different types of data can be collected, interpreted and analyzed by the researcher. It gives support to the claims, statements and conclusion of the study.
